This is seeking to develop standards and a reference implementation through Apache Atlas to enable organizations to manage data as an asset even when they use tools and platforms from multiple vendors. This type of problem is extremely complex and it needs the collaboration of multiple organizations to make it happen. In this talk I will go through the technical challenges we face and how they are being overcome. *Five things I learned from turning research papers into industry prototypes*As data scientists, building on published research allows us to stay on the cutting edge and not reinvent the wheel. However, in most cases, this transfer is not trivial. My talk will provide you with a five-step workflow that has made this transfer easier for me.About the speakers: *Mandy Chessell*CBE FREng CEng FBCS is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, Master Inventor and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Mandy is a trusted advisor to executives from large organizations, working with them to develop their strategy and architecture relating to the governance, integration and management of information. She is also driving IBM's strategic move to open metadata and governance through the Apache Atlas open source project.
