PyLadies BCN - Introduction to debugging in Python (+ CodeFights!)
Thursday 26 February 2015, 19:00 - 20:00
Roc Boronat, 138 08018 Barcelona, Barcelona, España
Did you ever have the feeling of looking at a piece of broken code without knowing where to start fixing it? Maybe you didn't even find the broken code, huh? This session is just for you!
In this session we will talk about why we should learn to debug, and we will learn how to actually debug Python code. We will introduce some Python debugging modules, but we will focus on pdb and ipdb (IPython pdb) modules.
After some practicing, we will introduce CodeFights web app, we will play a little bit and we will practice our new acquired skills with some of its challenges.
What you need for this session For the session, you will need a laptop with wifi connection, a text editor (Sublime Text is a good choice if you don't have any favourite yet) and python 2.X installed, so you can execute $ python a_python_file.py on a terminal and run a python file. You will also need the modules pdb and ipdb installed. If anybody has problems with python installation we can try to solve them before the session (please let us know in advance), or you can also work in pairs so don't be too worried about it ;)
Also, please create and account on CodeFights https://codefights.com/, so we can use it right away.
How to find the room The meetup will be host at UPF, at the Campus del Poblenou, Roc Boronat Building, room 52.415, that is, building 52, 4th floor, room 15.The address is Roc Boronat, 138 - 08018 Barcelona. As you enter the building through the front door, go through the right door (you should see a building 52 signal somewhere), up the stairs to the 4th floor and look for the room 15. If you use the elevator don't use the first one you see because that one doesn't let you go to the 4th floor. Instead, go to the elevator that is behind that, in the other corridor. Be patient, it is slow ;)
If anybody has any question or suggestion please contact us! We look forward to seeing you all at the meetup :)
