London Web Performance Group - February Meetup - RUM, DevOps and Performance!

Tuesday 25 February 2014, 20:30 - 21:30

St. George's Circus, London, SE1 0AE ‎, London, Reino Unido

We've got a double-header special event this month - TWO talks from the Compuware tech evangelism team on RUM & DevOps! Note the talks start a little later than normal at 1930.  Title: Delivering on the Performance Promise using RUM Speaker: Klaus Enzenhofer, Technology Strategist Over the last 3 years we worked closely with companies that implemented Real User Monitoring in order to better understand the impact of their application performance and usability on their end users. In these 3 years we learned about what to measure, what not to measure and what these numbers tell us. In this session we look into a couple of real life examples where RUM helped building problem awareness and delivered useful information to improve the user experience. On the other side we also discuss those promises that RUM failed to deliver and what the requirements of mobile apps are on future RUM approaches. Title: Best Practices on Performance-focused DevOps Speaker: Andreas Grabner, Technology Strategist Did you know that most problems that lead to app crashes, slow performance or incorrect application behavior come from just a handful of root causes? Non-optimized database access, deployment mistakes, memory leaks, deadlocks due to synchronization issues or inefficient coding are just some examples of these root causes. Companies that think Continuous Delivery and DevOps Best Practices will solve all their problems typically fail as they just run into these problems faster. In this session we take a closer look at the most common problems, how to detect them and how to extend your DevOps culture to become more performance aware by automatically detecting these top problems in an automated way. Venue The venue is courtesy of Digital Detox at The Clarence Centre for Enterprise and Innovation St. George's Circus, London, SE1 0A. It's pretty much equidistant from Elephant and Castle, Lambeth North and Southwark (and it's not that far to walk from Waterloo either!).  Agenda 1900 - arrive & networking 1930 - Delivering on the Performance Promise using RUM  2015 - Best Practices on Performance-focused DevOps 2100 - drinks & networking courtesy of Digital Detox
