LJC - London Java Community - Serverless: The Missing Manual & Serverless Architecture in the Java Ecosystem

Tuesday 24 July 2018, 19:00 - 20:00

Sign up on Eventbrite for Location, London, Reino Unido

Talk 1 Details: Do serverless cloud platforms leave you with more questions than answers? This session will focus on migrating from traditional applications to serverless cloud platforms. You’ll learn about serving files without a web server, managing application state in a stateless environment, running background processes in ephemeral runtimes and more. These techniques will enable you to build modern applications using serverless platforms. This session is for developers who see the benefits of serverless but are struggling to adjust to a serverless world. About the speaker: James Thomas is the Lead Developer Advocate for Serverless at IBM Cloud. He spends his time speaking at conferences, writing blog posts or creating open-source code to share the awesomeness of serverless cloud platforms. James is a committer on Apache OpenWhisk, the open-source serverless platform. He wrote (and maintains) the official JavaScript client library. He also created the OpenWhisk provider plugin for The Serverless Framework. Talk 2 Details: In this session, we'll start with a short introduction to Serverless and what it means to developers, and why it's important to understand this technology. Then we'll survey Serverless options on the Java ecosystem to give you an idea of what is currently available. About the speaker: Pratik Patel is the CTO of Atlanta based TripLingo (http://www.triplingo.com/). He wrote the first book on 'enterprise Java' in 1996, “Java Database Programming with JDBC.” He has also spoken at various conferences and participates in several local tech groups and startup groups. He's in the startup world now and hacks iOS, Android, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Rails, and ….. well everything except Perl. Pratik's speciality is in large-scale applications for mission-critical and mobile applications use. He has designed and built applications in the retail, healthcare, financial services, and telecoms sectors. Pratik holds a master's in Biomedical Engineering from UNC, has worked in places such as New York, London, and Hong Kong, and currently lives in Atlanta, GA. ***This is a placeholder for the event which is being run on Eventbrite.
