Ironhack Barcelona - Tech School - Data Horror Stories: Machine Learning with Naivety

Wednesday 27 June 2018, 19:00 - 20:00

C/Pamplona, 96 - 08018, Barcelona, España

Good day data people! It seems the summer is still awaiting its arrival - but fear not; we have another BCN Data Engineering event in line for you. Michael Pérez will be talking about what no to do through Naivety and machine learning. Michael is a teacher, cook, writer, and independent software engineer. He has experience in the web ecosystem but specializes in Data Orchestration systems, Analytics layers, Data pipelines, and Big Data Architecture. You can find more about him at his site: https://puhrez.com. Naivety is not a new Machine Learning framework intent on making price trend prediction, market segmentation, or even hat recommendations accessible to the statistical novice. It's the perspective that comes free of charge with a lack of understanding. Sometimes this is good, as it allows one to effortlessly think outside the box, but often it's useful, for those with deadlines, to know what that box looks like. This talk is about how a small team of data engineers tries to investigate the classic e-commerce problem of "Is this person going to buy a thing?" using scikit-learn's machine learning tools. Come to learn about what not to do through misadventures in naivety, novelty, and natural language processing.
