Understanding UX and Hacking Perceived Performance by Tammy Everts We all care about making pages faster, but how fast is fast enough? and how important is it? Tammy Everts from SOASTA will be in town presenting at the Smashing Conference and will also share to the group the main findings of her research in Web Performance and optimization (WPO).  Approaching these questions from her field study based on user surveys, eye tracking studies, neuroscientific research, and years of experience.  Also sharing some useful tips for creating the illusion of faster pages. Some of the questions to explore during this session: • Why do we, as internet users, crave fast online experiences?• There are a ton of performance metrics, but which one(s) are the best for measuring perceived UX?• Are users more sensitive to performance issues in some contexts than in others? What are those contexts?• How do people perceive performance differently on their desktop and mobile devices?• What are the page-level issues that hurt UX the most?• What are some tricks you can use to make pages *appear* to render faster?
